Since 2003, Groovera has brought you award-winning and critically-acclaimed chillout radio programming provided free-of-charge and without commercial interruptions. This service may be offered at no charge to our listeners but is by no means free - or even cheap - for us to operate. Listener donations help tremendously in keeping Groovera alive, expanding AND without advertisements.
As of today, Groovera still has to cover a large percentage of its basic overhead expenses out of pocket which requires us to seek monies elsewhere, impacting the overall quality of our production. On the 17th of every month, our monthly bill for bandwidth expenses is due. As with most months, we cannot cover these expenses out of our own pocket for February 2010 and we urgently need help from you, our audience. We cannot grow at all without at least breaking even with listener donations and you who have helped so far have enabled us to make many service improvements, including building the new website you see today.
Groovera's audience and service offerings have grown tremendously from our humble beginnings. Our costs continue to rise with the ever-growing demand for our service. We are ready to release two more channels - perhaps even a third channel - before the end of 2010. However, listener support has been sparse at best and still only currently off-sets approximately 55% of just our basic monthly overhead costs and cannot scratch the surface to cover the new royalty rates imposed, which exponentiates our overhead. Although we gained a tremendous response when we ran our first and only other fundraiser in August 2008, we are still a long way from breaking even and many of our subscribers have succumb to the challenges of the current recession. We are back to where we began, carrying most of the financial burden alone with only about one out of every 30,000 listeners contributing anything at all (many thanks to those very few of you out there who have helped and even bigger thanks to those who have made repeated contributions or offered large sums - this plea is not aimed at you!). We currently serve over 900,000 listeners a month combined and if everyone in our audience contributed a small amount, Groovera could do some amazing things for you!
Throughout Groovera's years of service, Groovera founder and manager Tim Quigley has been covering the cost differential out-of-pocket with wages earned from ordinary 9-to-5 day jobs as a high-tech consultant in addition to his full-time-plus-overtime efforts operating Groovera as a one-man team (no, he is NOT independently wealthy or even close!). Even with our limited resources, Groovera has remained from its beginnings a formidable competitor to its peers with venture funding, large teams of staff, and/or endless amounts of bandwidth provided to them free-of-charge by the world's largest media conglomerates. Groovera simply offers the highest quality chillout radio programming available by whatever cost-effective means we can deliver it to you, our audience.
Groovera is very proud to be a true independent radio station who serves your need, presenting many independent artists you would never hear elsewhere in radio. Nearly all of the artists we showcase are independent and are on the cutting-edge, having no commercial audience at this time. These artists are not rich, nor are they "rock stars", and are people just like you and us who are doing all they can every day to earn a living, especially in these times. Just like Groovera, they are exercizing their craft out of love for doing it. Regardless, the "chillout" music genre is only beginning to emerge in the United States. Few major media entities showcase it at all and nobody specializes in chillout music like Groovera. We are the world's first radio station to bring you multiple authoritative chillout radio channels and we still have more to come. Any one of these channels present formats viable as future FM radio, satellite or cable radio formats.
Think of Groovera as an aural art gallery. We do this in true independence with no payola, no subsidies, nothing. Ever. We play only the GOOD STUFF and what we do is absolutely REAL and unadulturated by big media or any outside influence. Groovera plays what you hear out of taste and vision without no obligations to anyone except our audience. We give you the afficionado's chillout mixes and we are esteemed to be the radio destination for those who have outgrown the experimental formats that many other radio stations present. Some of those peers even make claims such as being "extremely independent" to place themselves in our league of independent media and yet are thoroughly subsidized with free bandwidth from major media, among other things. Those who are much larger than us do not focus upon or specialize in chillout radio, regardless.
Groovera pays out of our own pockets to provide you with our service...every last dime...every last hour of the personal time we have...with very few exceptions. Groovera stands alone - we may stand TALL but we need our audience to stand with us, too! It is time for us to stir your passion because we need you as much as you need us!
