Welcome to the beta version of the all-new groovera
For over a decade, Groovera provides the ultimate soundtrack for sophisticated modern lifestyles around the world, 24/7. Groovera's boutique radio streams deliver a soothing, ultra-modern flair to every part of your day, whether calming your commute, smoothing your workday, aiding the creative process, decompressing in the evening, providing a consistent and high-vibrating energy to your social events, or setting the right vibe for your more intimate moments. Now streaming our all-time most consistent playlists directly to all modern desktop and smartphone web browsers with no pre-requesite apps or plug-ins, Groovera offers today the easiest possible user experience in New Radio: simply touch and play.
Four years in the making, complete with several scrapped efforts, what you see today is the Groovera 5.0 pre-release beta. The functionality of this new site is what we have always wanted to build from the very beginning and finally modern browser technology makes this possible as envisioned without using Flash, which never supported the cutting-edge codec we use or the streaming technology we used previously (it's not supported on mobile devices, anyway). What you see today is just the bare bones and in upcoming days you will observe parts of the old site being assimilated to the new framework to complete the site and the new site is being built around the core parts you are enjoying today.
What's new?
Among the first of its kind in the world of New Radio, Groovera introduces a "touch-and-play" user experience allowing you to instantly launch the streams with a simple a tap or a click from the homepage on any modern desktop or mobile web browser. This new user experience requires no plug-ins or third-party applications — no Flash, external media players, or any mobile apps required other than the web browser itself, therefore only one click or tap away from hearing the streams upon the very first visit to Groovera.com. Now even a kitten can launch a Groovera stream and so can old cats! No more confusion, technical hassle or any kind of "foreplay" — just touch and play the music you love! Other new improvements include:
- Universal touch-screen smartphone support.
- All-new server equipment with exponentially more power (upgraded October 2015 and stabilized November 2015 - this is what all the "bumps" in the streams were about in early-to-mid Autumn).
- Completely new streaming technology, enabling browser-embedding the streams as you observe today (upgraded May-June 2015).
- Playlist clean-up - ongoing for the past 3-4 years, now all channels sound almost exactly as intended and far more material has been either moved to new channels or removed altogether rather than new material being added. At this point, we can say Chill Surreal™, Soul Nouveau™, and Exotic Lounge™ are are now "official" and no longer "beta".
- A huge backlog of new material is being added incrementally.
- Cutting-edge website architecture allowing Groovera 5.0 to run as a single-page application, allowing you to navigate the site without interrupting the music.
What's next?
Since the "heavy work" is already done, as noted above, the rest that is left to do is to update and convert the rest of the old website content, which we will incrementally release over the course of the upcoming weeks. Tim is building this entire thing himself and did everything else as well, what with all sorts of technological set-backs and spoilers.
The second-biggest reason for the fundraiser is to gather the funds to acquire licensing that will enable Groovera to play literally anything we choose and this is going to cost us several thousand U.S. dollars to attain. We have long been showcasing almost entirely up-and-coming independent artists. Some have gone on to be hugely successful. We would like to see every artist we play become successful and we would also like to play material we have previously not had permission to showcase while making the streams more robust. Tim has developed new stream formulas while cleaning up the existing streams, has amassed a lot of new material to add to the current streams, and has ten new channels in the incubator, some are over a decade old and never heard by the public. More specifics will be shared with the official site release when Tim publishes his open letter.
For your convenience while the new site is being completed and the old content is awaiting being ported over, here are links to the FAQ, Contact form, Listener Letters, and the About Us page. They are not altogether mobile-compatible but should perform decently on modern smartphones, at least well enough until the old site is completely phased-out.
